A Volkswagen ID.4 SUV is among 44,551 vehicles recalled over potential battery fire risks.

The agency said recently that some ID.4 (pictured) vehicles have high-voltage batteries that may overheat, increasing the risk of fire.

The recall covers 43,881 model year 2023–2025 ID.4 vehicles.

Separately, 670 model year 2023–2024 ID.4 vehicles are being recalled because of improper alignment of certain high-voltage battery cell module electrodes, which also poses a battery fire risk.

Volkswagen said it will update the battery software through dealers and replace battery packs free of charge if necessary.

Vehicle owners can check whether their car is affected by entering their vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA recall website.
