A handwritten letter filled with sincerity arrived at the Korea Daily on November 26, accompanied by a check. The donor wrote to join the “Love Winter Jacket Giveaway” campaign, an annual winter charity drive run by Happy Village, a nonprofit affiliated with the Korea Daily. The gesture, made during a difficult time, underscored how the campaign continues to inspire acts of generosity.

The donor, who operates a small business in Koreatown, Los Angeles, wrote candidly about the challenges he faces. He explained that recent immigration enforcement actions have sharply reduced foot traffic from customers. In addition, he said tariff increases have disrupted product supplies and contributed to a significant drop in revenue.

Donor describes business struggles but keeps commitment to giving

He added that rising labor costs have made it difficult to maintain usual employee support. For years, he provided twice-yearly bonuses to nearly 50 staff members every January and July. This year, however, he said he could not do so for the first time, describing the situation as frustrating and painful.

Despite these setbacks, the donor said he could not turn away from neighbors in need. He acknowledged that he is even questioning whether his business can continue operating. Yet, he still felt compelled to contribute to the Love Winter Jacket Giveaway campaign, writing that he wanted to “do something good for those who need help.” He apologized that the amount was small, asking organizers to “understand with an open heart.”

Donations support winter coats for underserved neighbors

The heartfelt letter will translate directly into another warm jumper for someone in need. Each donation helps produce winter coats distributed to underprivileged individuals, giving them comfort during the coldest months of the year.

The Love Winter Jacket Giveaway campaign, now in its 19th year, runs through December 13. Donors can choose the number of coats they wish to sponsor—$150 for 10 jumpers, $1,500 for 100, or $3,000 for 200—with contributions accepted by check, card, or cash.
