Hertz has partnered with Amazon to launch large-scale online sales of used vehicles, making thousands of Hertz cars available through Amazon’s platform.

The company announced on August 20 that customers can now browse and purchase thousands of used cars via Amazon Autos. After completing contracts with an electronic signature, buyers can pick up their vehicles at designated Hertz locations.
The service is initially available in Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, and Seattle to customers living within a 75-mile radius of each city. Hertz and Amazon plan to expand the program to 45 additional regions. With this partnership, Hertz becomes Amazon Autos’ first major used vehicle supplier.
Vehicles from multiple brands—including Ford, Toyota, Chevrolet, and Nissan—are available on Amazon’s website. Customers can also trade in their existing vehicles and choose financing plans of up to 72 months. Each purchase includes an additional one-year dealership warranty on top of the original manufacturer’s coverage.

Through this collaboration, Hertz gains new revenue opportunities by streamlining its inventory management, while Amazon strengthens its automotive business. Amazon began selling new Hyundai vehicles online in December 2023 and has since expanded to include used cars from other manufacturers, starting in Los Angeles this month.
Jeff Adams, Vice President of Hertz, emphasized that the goal is to “redefine the car buying experience” by leveraging Amazon’s platform. “Amazon Autos is an ideal partner for convenience, trust, and scale,” he said.
Hertz has been reorganizing its operations after filing for bankruptcy protection during the COVID-19 pandemic and experiencing setbacks with its electric vehicle strategy. The company now focuses on fleet optimization, revenue growth, and cost efficiency.
Hertz sells hundreds of thousands of used cars annually and is actively expanding its retail division. This Amazon partnership is part of that strategy. In the first quarter of this year, Hertz achieved record used car retail sales and plans to grow its Rent2Buy program—which allows rental customers to purchase vehicles directly—to 100 U.S. cities.
