A major high-rise development has been approved near the Los Angeles Convention Center, bringing a new hotel and mixed-use complex to the area.
The Los Angeles City Planning Commission recently recommended approval of the South Park Towers project, proposed by real estate developer Jade Enterprises. The project site spans 1600 South Flower Street, bordered by Venice Boulevard and Hope Street in Downtown LA.
The development will include a 300-room hotel, 250 residential units, 3,200 square feet of ground-floor food and beverage space, 10,000 square feet of medical office space, and 288 parking stalls. It will consist of two high-rise towers, one 22 stories and the other 23 stories, featuring glass exteriors and rooftop community areas, a fitness center, and conference rooms.
Although the original plan included digital signage, the commission rejected requests for signage facing the freeway.
Construction is expected to take approximately 32 months, but no official groundbreaking date has been announced.
The new hotel is likely intended to complement the long-delayed expansion of the LA Convention Center, which has faced cost overruns. The expansion may now be postponed until after the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
