Taeho Kim, a 41-year-old Korean American fitness athlete, was crowned the Muscle Beach competition winner at the 2025 Muscle Beach International Classic held in Venice, California, on May 26. Competing in the men’s physique category, Kim took first place among 25 contestants before a large Memorial Day crowd.
“This is a stage I’ve dreamed of competing on for years,” Kim said. “Winning here proves to me that I can truly begin again.”
Comeback After Career-Threatening Injury
Kim’s victory marks a remarkable comeback. Years ago, he was diagnosed with a herniated disc following a car accident and advised to stop exercising altogether. Despite the prognosis, he committed to rehabilitation and consistent training. In 2019, he placed third at the same event. This year, he returned stronger—and won.
To prepare for the competition, Kim followed a rigorous three-month regimen. He trained five days a week for over two hours per session and adhered to a strict nutrition plan.
“Diet is just as important as the workouts,” he said. “The key is not simply losing weight, but maintaining muscle definition while improving overall condition.”
Confidence on Stage and Future Ambitions
Although he was the only Korean contestant and faced competitors with larger physiques, Kim said he remained confident. “This stage gave me validation,” he said.
Just two days prior, Kim earned second place at the INBA International Battle Against Cancer in El Segundo. His next goal is to win the INBA World Cup on November 1, which would grant him professional status.
