On May 26, 2025, most public offices, schools, and delivery services in California will be closed in observance of Memorial Day, a federal holiday honoring those who died in military service.
Government offices and schools
DMV, libraries, city halls, and courthouses across California will close for the holiday. Federal and state courts will also suspend operations. Most public school districts, including the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), will not hold classes on Memorial Day.
Postal and delivery services
The United States Postal Service (USPS) will close all retail locations and suspend regular mail delivery on May 26. However, Priority Mail Express will remain in service and operate as usual. Full delivery and pickup services will resume on May 27, 2025. USPS customers can access self-service features, such as package tracking and postage purchases, at usps.com or authorized retail locations like grocery and convenience stores.
UPS will suspend all ground, air, and international deliveries on Memorial Day. Some UPS Store locations may remain open with limited hours; customers are encouraged to check local schedules. UPS Express Critical (now operated by MNX) will remain available for urgent shipments.
FedEx will close most services, including FedEx Ground, FedEx Freight, and FedEx Logistics, on May 26. FedEx Office locations may operate on reduced schedules. Urgent deliveries through FedEx Custom Critical will continue as normal.
Retail stores
Target, Walmart and H mart stores will remain open on Memorial Day, though hours may vary by location. In contrast, Costco will close all warehouses across California for the day.
