The Laguna Road Choir, made up of 71 students from Laguna Road Elementary School in Fullerton, won the Excellent award as the youngest and largest team at a recent music competition.

Under the direction of Andrew Park, 68 students from the choir performed at the music festival on April 25 at the Walter Knott Theater in Buena Park’s Knott’s Berry Farm, earning recognition for their efforts. The group presented two songs, Can You Hear Me and Count on Me, enhanced with sign language and choreography.
Dedicated Practice Led to Meaningful Award
Volunteer Byun Mi-Young explained, “This was our third time participating, and the children won a meaningful award. We had the largest group and were also the youngest team this year.” She noted that the choir had practiced weekly after school since February to prepare for the event.
The festival, launched in 1982, is a nationwide event designed to give students opportunities for musical growth. In Southern California, it has been held annually at the Walter Knott Theater for the past 10 years, primarily featuring choirs, bands, and orchestras from middle and high schools.
Beyond competitions, the Laguna Road Choir remains active in the community, performing at city-sponsored music events, year-end concerts, and nursing home visits in Fullerton.
