North Korea escalates tensions with missile launch ahead of U.S. Election

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that North Korea launched an unidentified ballistic missile into the East Sea on November 5, local time.

This provocation comes just five days after North Korea’s launch of the new Hwasong-19 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on October 31.

The missile launch occurred ahead of the U.S. presidential election, set to begin at 2 p.m. KST on the same day.

On November 1, North Korea’s state-run Rodong Sinmun reported that the country successfully launched “ultimate version” of its ICBM the previous day. [Rodong Sinmun Screenshot]
