Sewer rates are about to go up in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation submitted a sewer fee hike proposal to the City Council on May 2.
The proposal calls for seven increases in sewer rates. Sewer bills are included in the Department of Water and Power’s bi-monthly water bills.
If approved, the increase would start at about 20 percent this October. For a typical single-family home, the bill would increase from an average of $72.27 to $92.08 in October.
By 2028, the rate is projected to double. After the seventh and final rate increase, the typical rate for a single-family home will rise to $155.50 in July 2028.
The authority expects to collect about $115 million from the increased sewer tax. The money will be used to improve water systems and infrastructure in the city.
