Nestlé recalls 440,000 Starbucks-branded mugs due to burn and laceration hazards

Consumers who received holiday Starbucks cups last year are urged to promptly return them and obtain a refund.

Nestlé USA has issued a recall for over 440,000 Starbucks holiday mugs due to the risk of overheating or breakage if microwaved or filled with extremely hot liquid.

The recalled mugs are ceramic adorned with a metallic coating bearing the Starbucks logo, available in 11 oz and 16 oz sizes with either Starbucks Hot Cocoa or Coffee.

These holiday mug sets were not distributed in Starbucks stores but were instead sold online and in-store such as Target and Walmart from November 2023 to January 2024, priced about $10, $13, or $20.

According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there have been 12 reported incidents of the mugs overheating or breaking, resulting in 10 injuries, including severe burns, blisters on fingers or hands, and one cut requiring medical attention.

Consumers are advised to cease using the mugs immediately and can return them to the point of purchase or contact Nestlé USA for a full refund.

Customers can visit the website to request a refund by providing a photo of the mug or the gift set identifier code and completing the required form.
