One person is in the hospital on January 30, recovering from smoke inhalation from a fire at an upper unit at a four-story apartment complex over a parking garage in LA’s Koreatown.

Firefighters responded at 10:15 p.m. on Jan. 29 to 3333 W. Second St., west of Virgil Avenue, where they found flames coming from the unit, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange said.

Crews simultaneously developed hose lines to the top-floor unit, helped occupants evacuate, and cut holes in the roof for vertical ventilation, Prange said.
It took 72 firefighters 25 minutes to extinguish the flames.

An unspecified number of residents were displaced due to smoke inhalation, and the Red Cross was contacted to assist them.

The person who was hospitalized was said to be in fair condition. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
