An American Airlines flight from Los Angeles (LA) made a hard landing at Kahului Airport on the Hawaiian island of Maui, resulting in five crew members and one passenger being taken to the hospital, as reported by the Associated Press and CNN on January 28.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that American Airlines Flight 271 (Airbus 320) experienced a hard landing on Runway 20 at around 2 p.m. on January 27.

In a statement to CNN, American Airlines said, “American Airlines flight 271 with service from Los Angeles (LAX) to Maui (OGG) experienced an issue upon landing in OGG. The aircraft taxied to the gate under its own power and customers deplaned normally.”

The specific issue with the plane during landing was not disclosed by American Airlines.

The airline confirmed that the flight had 167 passengers and seven crew members on board.

The six individuals who were hospitalized have since been released, according to the airline.

The FAA has announced that it will investigate the incident.
