Girl group Blackpink and boy band Seventeen each won two awards at the 2022 MTV European Music Awards (EMAs) on Monday.
Blackpink was named as the winner of the “Best Metaverse Performance” category at the MTV EMA Awards ceremony held in Düsseldorf, Germany. Blackpink member Lisa also won the “Best K-pop” category.
The “Best Metaverse Performance” category is a newly established award this year, and Blackpink competed with the likes of Justin Bieber, Charlie XCX and Twenty One Pilots.
Seventeen took the trophies for the “New Act” and “Push Artist” categories. “New Act” is a category that selects new notable singers and has been given attention as a major award category since 1994. “Push Artist” is a relatively new category that recognizes teams selected through the “MTV Push Campaign.”
Boy band BTS was honored with the “Biggest Fans” award for the fifth consecutive year. Tomorrow X Together was named the winner of the “Best Asian Act” category.
