The Korean American Family Services (KFAM), an organization serving as the guardian of Korean-American families in Orange County, is hosting its 2017 legal advice seminar at its office (12363 Beach Blvd., #1) on Sept. 23 at 10 a.m.
The two-hour seminar will be led by four legal experts, including judges and lawyers. Their lectures will center on laws regarding families, teenagers, immigration and domestic violence.
Orange County Superior Courtโs Judge Salvador Sarmiento will speak to the attendees about โถdefinition of abuse and its reality โถdomestic violence prevention โถlegal process of dealing with domestic violence. Lawyer Susan Choi will speak about โถdivorce process โถcommon issues and misunderstandings in divorce cases โถtrial process โถchild custody and asset distribution.
Lawyer Caroline Han, who also once served as the president of Orange County Korean American Bar Association will speak about โถyouth violence and its legal procedures โถeducation and programs at juvenile detention centers โถjuveniles court. Lawyer William Yeon, in addition to covering deferred action, will speak about โถchanging immigration status โถobtaining citizenships โถthe Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
