Disability Fundraiser with Kyun-sung Kang

“Show your love for Jesus and your neighbors at the Milal Night.”

The 2017 Milal Night, a fundraising event for Korean-Americans with disabilities, will take place over four days from Sept. 15 in Southern California.

South Korean singer Kyun-sung Kang is the main guest for this year’s event. After debuting in 2002 as a member of Noel, Kang has consistently been a popular figure in the K-pop landscape.

“I’ve learned that many Korean-Americans from both West and East Coast get together at the Milal Night to help the disabled in our community,” Kang said through a video message. “I wanted to take part in a valuable effort. It’s an honor.”

A devout Christian himself, Kang has been actively involved in religious activities in Korea.

“Confession” is the topic of this year’s concert. Aside from Kang, contemporary Christian music artist Kyung-hye Ha will also perform at the concert. Ha, who has an impaired vision, has overcome her disability to pursue a career in music. Ha is known for her 2004 album which she released with actor Seung-woo Cho.

Since 2001, the Milal Night concert has raised over $2 million, which has been presented to disabled Korean-Americans. Last year, 95 Korean-Americans with disabilities were able to receive the scholarships.

“More than just a few disabled Korean-Americans are struggling to make ends meet or attend school properly due to financial reasons,” Milal Mission pastor Jong-hee Lee. “The goal this year is to raise $150,000 for more than 100 people. That’s what we’re preparing for.”

The concert will be start at ANC Onnuri Church (10000 Foothill Blvd., Lake View Terrace) on Sept. 15 at 7 p.m., followed by Glory Church of Jesus Christ (1801 S. Grand Ave, LA) on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. and Bethel Korean Church (18700 Harvard Ave. Irvine) at 7 p.m. on Sept. 17.
