Ahn Launches Campaign to Register Voters

Elections for seven counties in California will be held on March 7. Ballot measure S is drawing a lot of controversy as it proposes to temporarily stall the city’s construction projects. Korean-American attorney Grace Yoo is urging the need for Mesaure S at the L.A. City Hall on March 6.

Robert Ahn, a candidate running for California’s 34th Congressional District, is launching a campaign to help Korean-American to become registered voters.

Ahn announced recently through a press release that only 39 percent of the Korean-American residents in the 34th district are registered voters.
“The Korean community has so far been ignored in the political landscape,” Ahn said. “This is the perfect opportunity to voice our thoughts as a community.”

To increase the number of Korean-American voters, Ahn is starting a campaign to help them register as voters. The campaigns are set to take place across Koreatown, including Koreatown Galleria.

“I’m pleasantly shocked to receive such a warm support from Korean-Americans, but opinions like theirs have to turn into ballots to be fully articulated,” Ahn said.

Ahn added that he plans to help 20,000 Korean-Americans register to vote until March 20.

Meanwhile, Ahn is also set to hold a meeting with residents of the 34th district. The meeting will take place on March 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. and anyone who resides in the 34th district can participate to talk about various issues concerning them within the community.

The 34th Congressional District covers L.A. Koreatown, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, Eagle Rock and Pico-Union. Ahn is among the 23 candidates running to represent the district, but is also the only Korean-American in the race. If Ahn manages to win, he will become the first Korean-American to hold such a position in 19 years.
