World Taekwondo Federation Changes Its Name over Acronym

World Taekwondo

The World Taekwondo Federation, which has been gone by that name since its establishment in 1973, is changing its name due to the “negative connotation” associated with the acronym, “WTF.”

“In the digital age, the acronym of our federation has developed negative connotations unrelated to our organization,” said Choue Chung-won, president of the organization. “So it was important that we rebranded to better engage with our fans.”

Dropping its original name, the organization is now going by a simpler name, World Taekwondo.

World Taekwondo was established on May 28, 1973 in Korea with envisioned objectives to promote, expand, and improved the international practice of taekwondo.
