Eunisses Hernandez, the Los Angeles City Councilmember representing District 1, officially announced on May 12 that she will run for reelection.
District 1 encompasses Highland Park, Glassell Park, Chinatown, and the eastern areas of Koreatown (a Los Angeles neighborhood with a large Korean American community), including MacArthur Park.
The election is scheduled for next year, with a primary in June and a general election in November.
Progressive Record and Endorsements

Throughout her first term, Hernandez has pursued a progressive policy agenda focused on housing stability, expanding unarmed crisis response programs, and promoting environmental justice. She is credited with securing over $25 million in funding to enhance MacArthur Park’s environmental beautification efforts and co-sponsoring an ordinance that designated Los Angeles as an ‘immigrant sanctuary city.’
In announcing her campaign, Hernandez stated, “Serving the residents of District 1 is the greatest honor of my life. All of my decisions are rooted in the belief that those closest to the problems are also closest to the solutions.”
Several City Council members have endorsed Hernandez, including Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Ysabel J. Jurado, Hugo Soto-Martinez, Nithya Raman, and Heather Hutt.
An official campaign launch event is scheduled for May 17 in Highland Park.
