California community college students have until Tuesday, September 3, to submit their financial aid applications to receive scholarships and grants.
Applications are available regardless of immigration status. September 3 is the deadline for California community college students to submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and California Dream Act Application (CADAA) for the 2024-2025 academic year to be considered for scholarships and grants, according to Ethnic Media Services (EMS).
The total amount of financial aid available is $383 million. It covers not only college tuition, but also housing, food, transportation, books, and childcare.
Any student can apply, regardless of their or their family’s immigration status, and it will not affect their immigration status because it is not considered public assistance.
The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) said that “every public university has a representative to assist undocumented students,” and that “information on students’ immigration status is not shared with outside agencies.”
The FAFSA and CADAA are available in multiple languages. CSAC provides application assistance in Korean, Spanish, Mandarin, Armenian, Arabic, and more, Assistance is available via online chat, email (studentsupport@csac.ca.gov), or phone (888-224-7268).
Applications can be submitted on the FAFSA website at studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa and on the CADAA website at dream.csac.ca.gov/landing.
