The term ‘sasaeng’ refers to an obsessive fan that stalks a Korean idol. As Big Bang’s T.O.P expressed the distress caused by his sasaeng fans who are invading his privacy, calls for stopping such stalking activities are growing louder.
On 16th, T.O.P posted a message on his Instagram account saying, “Chinese fans, please stop coming to my house. Hearing my doorbell ring all night, I’m scared to death. My heart is about to explode”. Then he warned, “I’ve had enough. From now on, I will report each case to the police”.
Not just T.O.P, but many other popular idol stars are having a hard time because of these sasaeng fans. There also have been many accidents of sasaeng fans as they often ignore the traffic signals to chase the stars. In a recent incident, Got7’s Jackson shocked his fans after he had a car accident because of his sasaeng fans. Sasaeng fans are not only invading stars’ private lives, but also committing crimes. They hack the stars’ online IDs and passwords, and illegally use their SNS accounts. Also, some extreme fans persistently find the stars’ phone numbers although they constantly change them because of sasaeng fans.
Many idol stars including T.O.P are warning their sasaeng fans through SNS, but the problem is not easily solved. Previously, Girl’s Generation’s Taeyeon, Exo’s Sehun and Chanyeol, Block B’s Zico also warned against them, but there has not been much change, reports say.
