Director and Actress of The Handmaiden Visit LA to Promote the Film

Acclaimed Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook’s erotic thriller film, The Handmaiden, is finally taking the last step before its screening in North America. With the release date approaching in less than three weeks, director Park Chan-wook and actress Kim Tae-ri visited Los Angeles on August 26 for the press conference held at Los Angeles Korean Culture Center.

“Especially in the U.S., people appraise The Handmaiden as the best piece among what I’ve directed,” said Park at the press conference. “Although some of the hardcore fans expressed disappointment because of its lack of violent scenes and the overarching tender ambience, the overall reaction, especially from female audiences and critics, was favorable.”

Park Chan-wook was accompanied by Kim Tae-ri, who acted Sook-hee, the “handmaiden.” “I’m glad to visit LA to promote the film because I heard that there are so many Korean audiences here who’ve been waiting for its opening,” said Kim, wishing her audiences abroad to enjoy The Handmaiden.

The Handmaiden is an erotic thriller film starring Kim Min-hee, Ha Jung-woo, Kim Tae-ri, and Cho Jin-woong. The film will be in theaters October 14th in major cities across the U.S., including Los Angeles.
